Who is Dr. Nihal Durmus?

Assoc. Prof. Nihal Durmuş, MD, PhD is an accomplished physician and specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery with extensive experience in both clinical and academic settings. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Kocaeli University in 2004 and completed her residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Marmara University, where she further advanced her expertise. Dr. Durmuş earned her medical specialty in 2010, became an Associate Professor in 2020, and simultaneously completed her PhD in Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences at Istanbul University, earning the title of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences Doctor (PhD).

Throughout her career, Dr. Durmuş has worked at Marmara University, where she served as an Assistant Doctor (2004-2010), Specialist (2011-2013), Assistant Professor (2013-2020), and Associate Professor (2020-2024) in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery. She has also gained significant international experience, having worked in various prestigious institutions such as the RWTH Aachen University, Sanctuary Clinic in the United States, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Erasmus University, and St. Georgies Hospital, specializing in fields such as reconstructive microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, and cleft lip and palate treatment.

In addition to her clinical and academic roles, Dr. Durmuş is an active member of several international medical societies, including the American College of Surgeons (FACS), International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), and the American Cleft Palate Foundation. Her clinical interests focus on orthognathic surgery, craniofacial surgery, congenital anomalies, breast reconstruction, chronic wound care, and aesthetic surgery. Dr. Durmuş has received multiple national and international certifications and is a board member of the Esthetic Plastic Surgery Association of Turkey (EPCD).

Dr. Durmuş is also dedicated to advancing medical practice through her work as a forensic expert for the Ministry of Justice since 2019, providing invaluable expertise in legal matters.
