Your Gastric Balloon Treatment Plan
01 · Individual Assessment
Screening considers your weight, health history and previous stomach procedures. Share your medication list and relevant medical records. Eligibility depends on the device and clinical assessment, not BMI alone.
02 · Endoscopic Placement
Placement is performed through the mouth using endoscopy and sedation. It is generally a day-case procedure; discharge depends on your recovery and the clinical team’s assessment.
03 · Dietitian Support
Follow the prescribed progression from liquids to other foods. Discuss eating habits, activity and follow-up: results vary, and weight regain can occur after removal.
04 · Scheduled Removal
The six-month balloon requires endoscopic removal within its approved duration, even if your target weight has not been reached. Earlier removal may be necessary if problems develop.

Side Effects and Safety
Nausea and abdominal discomfort can occur after placement. Potential complications include balloon deflation and migration, obstruction, overinflation, pancreatitis, ulcers and perforation. Sedation and endoscopy also carry risks. Your clinician should explain these before consent.
When to Seek Urgent Medical Care
Seek urgent assessment for severe or worsening abdominal or back pain, persistent vomiting, inability to keep fluids down, abdominal swelling or difficulty breathing. Tell the treating team you have a gastric balloon. Do not wait for a routine follow-up or a WhatsApp reply.
