Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job” or “nose reshaping” by patients, enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose. This surgery is applicable for patients who:
- have reached full facial development (over 16 years of age)
- would like a change to the aesthetic appearance of the nose and facial appearance
- want to address breathing problems related to the internal nasal structures
In evaluating you for rhinoplasty, plastic surgeon will examine; the inside and outside of your nose, the skin quality as well as the size and shape of your nose.
Plastic surgeon may also ask whether you have breathing difficulty through your nose or suffer from allergies.
Procedure
The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia and medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure.
In most cases, a closed procedure is used where the incision is placed inside your nose and it will not be visible. If the base of the nose is narrowed or the nostrils reduced, then an open procedure can be chosen and small pieces of skin below the nostrils will be removed.
Recovery
You may experience temporary skin numbness after rhinoplasty surgery.
Bruising is mostly gone after a week. Swelling, however, can last a number of weeks. During this time, you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose.
